An Eye-Fi Card - THE best digital camera accessory...

Have you ever turned on your digital camera and, while scrolling through the pics, found yourself saying, "Wow! I forgot all about that!" If you had that pic on your computer, you would never have forgotten it, but transferring can be so tedious!

Well, I've found the best accessory for any digital camera is an Eye-Fi memory card. It's a class six SDHC card with built in WiFi system. The card will automatically transfer your images and videos over wireless networks to your computer's hard drive!

Eye-Fi also has the solution to "Oh no! I'm out of space -- what am I going to delete???" With the endless memory feature, pics that have been safely transferred to your computer will be deleted when your card is almost full -- giving you a never ending memory card for more images.

Library Goin' Mobile

The Library has implemented a mobile version of its web page. Not all parts of the Library's page are mobile-friendly, just a few. How can this be useful here? One case is when people are waiting for an item to be returned so they can get it, they can check DELCAT on their Smart phones and see if it is back. I tested it out and found I could easily get to the mobile DELCAT search link. However, once entering search terms, the results list goes to regular DELCAT, which will require much zooming in to see (unless you have exceptionally great vision!). The Student Multimedia Design Center website does not have a mobile version at this time but is still accessible (with much zooming).

Ebook wars are heating up! New options for iPad users who read ebooks on them from Wal-Mart and Amazon.

NEW YORK — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. on Wednesday revealed new video and book-reading services that are designed for the iPad but bypass Apple Inc.’s fees on content sales.

Wal-Mart started to stream video from its Vudu service to the iPad’s Web browser, and Amazon announced the Kindle Cloud Reader, which lets users read e-books.

iPads and teaching kids

Since we have iPads, check out about a UD program helping distribute iPads to kids in lower income school districts.

Since some of our iPad users could be elementary ed majors or work with kids in some way, they may want to know about a link in the article to the International Children's Library which has free online kids books from all over the world in different languages! One of the links to an article on this site explores the value of digital books with multimedia elements in education. I like the fact that multimedia can help kids get into regular books too.
