iMovie - no audio on import

A guy was importing video into iMovie in studio 3 and the audio was not playing on import. I know this has happened before and the audio is imported and is heard on playback. Looking on the web I found this help sheet with several tips, which is the same thing that comes up in iMovie help. But I think it's more for older versions of iMovie, or at least I can't find the "clock button"(?). I imported a bit on the Mac from my own DV tape and found the audio was not playing either on import. One obvious suggestion is if it's a camera, turn the audio up on it, but not sure another solution in the studio. Any thoughts??

Using 3D printers to make toys

3D printers aren't really common, but they're definitely gaining popularity as they become less and less expensive. An art and technology group called FAT has come up with a cool idea: small printable adapters that connect kid's buildable toys. It can connect Legos, Duplos, K-Nex, Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs, and more. It's a pretty cool idea and a cool use of technology. When are we getting a 3D printer for the SMDC?

GoPro Hero now has a sequel

Building on the success of the model available for loan in the Student Multimedia Design Center, a new GoPro model video camera has been released: HD Hero Professional.

The manufacturer's chart suggests that, among its other attributes, the new model has a sharper lens and superior low-light capabilities than other GoPro models. For videographers who like to get wet, the website notes that the HD HERO2 is "[w]earable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197′ (60m), capable of capturing professional full 170º wide angle 1080p video and 11 megapixel photos at a rate of 10 photos per second..." This model may be worth considering for future SMDC use.

Cintiq 24HD moving to Studio #5 during Spring Break

Adobe CS6 on the way

Technology sites are a-buzz this week with speculations about Adobe's latest installment of its Creative Suite software. The news that Adobe is wrapping up development on CS6 is spurred by a series of video sneak-peaks launched by Adobe, featuring the latest version of Photoshop. Forums of experts and novice hopefuls alike are quickly listing their predictions for what improvements we'll see in the latest release.

A public beta of CS6 is expected to launch soon, with the official software to be available in the first half of this year.

Parallax

One of the latest web design trends popping up all over the internet is called Parallax Scrolling.

Parallax is a difference in the in the apparent position of an object viewed along different lines of sight. The Parallax effect or parallax scrolling in web design is the technique that features layered images that move around the website in different speeds/perspectives creating an interesting 3D illusion.
