Adobe CS6 is out!

Take a look at what Adobe CS6 has to offer and let me know what you think. Are the differences enough to account for updating to this version in our site? Do you know of other sites on campus that will be updating or faculty who will be teaching based on the newest version?

  1. According to Lynda.com, Illustrator in CS6 has a totally redesigned user interface. One selling point is an improved pattern creation tool, making it easy to create seamless tiles for web backgrounds based on a single object. Selecting artwork and choosing object-pattern-make allows one to generate and save a pattern to a grid or hexagonal pattern. Spacing and overlap can be easily adjusted, saving time.

Adding gradients to strokes is another new feature that CS6 offers in Illustrator. This allows a stroke to fade from a strong color to transparent. One can even simulate hand drawn strokes by varying the intensity and width of a stroke to give different effects.

Illustrator in CS6 also offers a revamped image trace that converts bit-mapped images into scalable vector artwork that may be used in a variety of projects. The vector artwork apparently loads much faster than in previous Illustrator versions and the demo makes it look versatile.

It'll be interesting to see if these features cause other UD sites to upgrade.
