"Pages per Sheet"
A student came to the desk with a problem printing. She was trying to use the "Pages per Sheet" function in the printer settings to print 4 images on one sheet of paper. Unfortunately, when her file was sent to the print station the computer said she was trying to print 900 copies. As it turns out, the Mac computers were not set up to use the "Pages per Sheet " function, which was causing the error. Though it is also possible to create a photoshop document that contains the 4 images and use that to print, the easiest fix to the problem is to simply move to a PC and print from there.

Changing 4 images to 900 pages is a strange twist! Many users can save paper to print multiple Microsoft PowerPoint slides or Adobe Acrobat pages on a single sheet. Look for multiple images among the printing options.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post! While the advice of switching to a PC when having trouble printing from a Mac is spot on, I do have a couple clarifications.
ReplyDeleteThe hundreds (or even thousands) of copies error is something that has come up occasionally with certain powerpoint or pdf files on the Mac. In all cases I have seen, moving to a PC has fixed the issue. However, I do not believe the "Pages per Sheet" printing function is the culprit as that was thoroughly tested earlier in the semester in Acrobat, Preview, Powerpoint, etc. So I think it is just something about certain files that the Mac doesn't like that is causing the error. We gave some to Systems people earlier in the semester, and they did not understand what the issue was. If this comes up again, please let a supervisor try to save the files (if the user is amenable) so that we can try to develop a theory about they kinds of files that cause this puzzling error.
