Problem with a Hard Drive

Today I tried connecting a hard drive to one of our windows machines, but it never appeared so I tried to connect it to the tower and it still could not connect. Next I tried to use the hard drive on a Mac and it finally worked! With Lucky's help we were able to find the root of the problem. The hard drive's partition was messed up so we had to repartition it on the Mac side then on the Windows side.

Whenever you are troubleshooting a hard drive make sure the power is plugged in, then check if either the USB or Firewire cable are plugged in. Sometimes it is better to plug the hard drive right into the tower of a desktop computer rather than a connector because there may not be enough juice to power the hard drive. If the hard drive does not work on a Windows then give it a try on a Mac or vice versa.

Ever need to partition a hard drive there is a guide if you search this on the SMDC computers

 U:\Guides & Manuals\Equip. & Software Guides

File name is Hard Drive Partitioning Guide its a word document
