Kindle Fire

Amazon's newest addition to its Kindle line of products, the Kindle Fire is already the top selling electronics item on Amazon -- and it hasn't even been released.

With Kindle Fire, Amazon makes the jump from e-readers into tablet territory along with Apple's iPad2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab series, and others. But what sets the Kindle Fire apart from all the rest?

Its price tag.

Retailing for only $199, the Kindle Fire is a full $300 less than Apple's least expensive iPad, which has been dominating the tablet market lately. The Kindle Fire runs on Android 2.3 OS and makes use of the Android App Store and Amazon's newly designed browser, Amazon Silk.

While the Fire may have fewer apps, a smaller screen, and less battery life, it comes with access to Amazon Prime's free streaming tv and movie service, a reduced price tag, and a smaller, lightweight design great for those on the go. Experts say the Kindle Fire could be a great in-between option for those interested in the tablet experience, but not willing to shell out $500 for an iPad2.

You can check out a side-by-side comparison of the two tablets here.
