This mentions microfilm of the US Census and other Census issues relating to estimates of Civil War dead (sxith paragraph from bottom). It is rather long but thought it would be interesting to the history minded among us. Also it shows the problems historians and genealogy researchers, of whom we have many using microforms resources, encounter in reconstructing the past. FYI we used to own microfilm copies of the US Census for Delaware and other areas, but they were discarded because they are available digitally through the Ancestry Library edition database. Occasionally we still have people requesting Census microfilm -- you can refer them to Reference for assistance with the Ancestry database. An interesting historical tidbit in the article is most of the 1890 census was lost due to a fire.
