Mason Bates: When Worlds Collide

What spins at a nightclub may differ greatly from the repertoire that rings through concert halls, but composer-DJ Mason Bates has managed to bring the two worlds together in his own way. He has written a piece specifically for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble consisting of amateur and professional of the YouTube community through uploaded audition videos. The piece, entitled "Mothership", features improvisation like that of a live DJ set and encorporates electronic triggers and drum pads.
